July 11th – Celebrate 98-year-old WWII Veteran’s Birthday

Community is Invited to Celebrate 98-year-old WWII Veteran’s Birthday
Event will be a drive-by parade

On Saturday, July 11, members of the San Diego community are invited to participate in a drive by birthday party for WWII Veteran Jeri Marcot, U.S. Marine Corps. The drive-by parade for the 98-year-old will begin at 11 a.m. and the participants should line up by 10:40 a.m. in the parking lot of the New Venture Church located at 4000 Mystra Drive, Oceanside.

The parade will then proceed to the Ocean Hills Senior Living facility at 4500 Cannon Road.

Corporal Marcot joined the USMC in 1944 and served until 1946. Before she enlisted in the Marines, she was working on her pilot’s license and during her service, she worked in aviation. Post-WWII she worked in the El Centro elementary school library and was a librarian in the District until she retired.

Marcot says, “I still feel the pride I felt the first time I put on my uniform. It is an honor to have served and earn the privilege to belong to the sisterhood of the women Marines.”

Marcot went on her Honor Flight in Sept 2017 with five other local female WWII veterans.
