San Diego will soon have a Gold Star Families Memorial Monument and your donations can help turn this dream into reality. Woody Williams’ vision is to honor and pay tribute to Gold Star Families and their Loved Ones who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our Freedom. “The San Diego area is one of the largest military and veterans’ communities in the US,” says Woody (living WWII Medal of Honor recipient for his actions on Iwo Jima, Feb. 23, 1945), “it is vital that we pay tribute to Gold Star Families in San Diego.” The purpose of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument project is to honor Gold Star Families, preserve the memory of the fallen, and stand as a stark reminder that Freedom is not free. This stunning black granite monument features two sides.

The Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is a tribute those who made the ultimate Sacrifice for our Freedom and those they left behind. The Monument tells a story through the four granite panels: Homeland, Family, Patriot, and Sacrifice. The scenes on each panel are a reflection of each community’s Gold Star Families and their fallen Heroes. At the center of this tribute is the most distinct feature of the monument, the cut out which represents the Loved One who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of Freedom. Our monuments include the promotion, creation, and implementation of Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments throughout the country

“Dying for freedom isn’t the worst thing that can happen. Being forgotten is.”
From the mother of posthumous Medal of Honor recipient PFC Bruce Carter, USMC

When a Loved One makes the ultimate sacrifice in the military, the loss is to the entire family. In our Country’s history, there had been little done on a national scale to honor and recognize Gold Star Families who have given so much for our freedom. The Gold Star Families Memorial Monument project thus began as a way to honor and recognize Gold Star Families for their enduring sacrifice, while ensuring that their fallen Heroes would never be forgotten. This primary initiative of The Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation continues to gain support across the United States. Witnessing the impact of these monuments has energized and motivated our organization to expand the mission to include Gold Star Family Outreach, Gold Star Family scholarships, and Gold Star Families Educational Advocacy. We thank you for being a part of the mission by supporting our organization.

Local Community Support is So Important

Because of your support, Woody’s foundation has been able to honor, serve, and recognize Gold Star Families and the legacy of their fallen heroes. With projects and initiatives in progress in 42 states, we continue to raise awareness and educate communities across the nation about Gold Star Families’ enduring sacrifice and the ultimate sacrifice made by their Loved Ones. “Our goal, now, is to encourage everyone in the great United States of America, to honor Gold Star Families in their communities because they have sacrificed so much,” explained Woody.

Today we are asking you to make another leadership investment. With your help, we can make an even larger impact in serving our Gold Star Families and the legacy of their Loved Ones.

With your continued support, the Foundation will be able to continue the mission. It is our honor and duty to keep the legacy of these fallen Heroes alive, and to continue supporting and serving the Gold Star Family members left behind. On behalf of The Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation, we thank you.
