Warrior Foundation Freedom Station, Grand Opening of Freedom Station III

Warrior Foundation Freedom Station Announces the Grand Opening of Freedom Station III

This grand opening will mark Warrior Foundation Freedom Station’s third transitional housing facility to open for ill and injured Warriors in San Diego.

Warrior Foundation Freedom Station is proud to announce the grand opening of Freedom Station III, the latest addition to its network of transitional housing and support centers for ill and injured military men and women service members. This milestone event will take place on Friday, January 24, 2025, and represents a significant expansion from the 17 current cottages to 29, in line with the Foundation’s mission to empower Warrior’s as they transition from military service to civilian life.

Freedom Station III is a state-of-the-art facility that provides transitional housing, essential resources, and a supportive community for America’s Warriors. Designed to address the unique needs of transitioning service members, the facility offers a blend of private living spaces, communal areas, and access to services such as hands-on guidance on career paths, education, trades, finances, wellness, and mentorship.

“We are very proud and honored to be celebrating the grand opening of Warrior Foundation Freedom Station III,” stated Sandy Lehmkuhler, CEO and Founder of Warrior Foundation Freedom Station. “The past 20 years would not have been possible without the generous support of our volunteers, donors, and business sponsors! We are the foundation that offers so many different approaches to success for our ill and injured, and I believe we can never do enough for our Warriors. This has been my belief for the past 20 years and remains my belief with the opening of this third location — we are resolved to do more… this is just the beginning!”

Andy Gasper, President of Warrior Foundation expressed “We are excited to offer 12 additional affordable housing cottages coupled with an individually tailored transitional housing program designed to make the Warrior win. Through mentorship, peer to peer support, counseling, and outdoor therapy each are designed to enrich the Resident’s lives allowing them to thrive to become success stories while participating in our program.”

The grand opening event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours of the facility, and remarks from local dignitaries, military leaders, and Warrior Foundation Freedom Station representatives. Attendees will have the opportunity to see the new facility, tour the cottages, and learn more about the impactful work being done to support ill and injured service members.

Freedom Station III builds upon the success of Freedom Stations I and II, which have served as lifelines for hundreds of Warriors since the foundation’s inception. The new facility will allow the foundation to serve even more individuals, ensuring that no Warrior is left behind in their journey to rebuild their lives after military service.

About Warrior Foundation Freedom Station:
Warrior Foundation Freedom Station’s mission is to be the leading force in assisting, honoring, and supporting the military men and women who have so bravely served and sacrificed for our country. We are committed to providing our Warriors with quality-of-life items, support services, and transitional housing designed to assist them and their families during recovery.

Warrior Foundation Freedom Station assists four main groups of Warriors:
1. The seriously ill and injured soon to be medically retired.
2. Those suffering from post-traumatic stress (PTS) and/or traumatic brain injury (TBI).
3. Those undergoing physical or occupational therapy.
4. Warriors who have been medically retired and remain in our community.

To serve this last group, we pioneered a new approach and opened Freedom Station – a unique transitional housing residence that provides ill and injured Warriors with the acclimation time, guidance, and resources to successfully make the transition from military service to civilian life.

Warrior Foundation Freedom Station is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization proudly operated by a dedicated staff and volunteer corps.
